Bitcoin Tumbles Below $75,000 Amid Broader Market Sell-Off
Bitcoin, the flagship cryptocurrency, has fallen below the $75,000 mark for the first time since August, intensifying pressure on an already fragile cryptocurrency market. The decline follows a sharp retreat from the $80,000 level, prompting questions among traders about whether Bitcoin is heading for a deeper correction or if the current market dynamics could mirror its recovery pattern from 2023.
Market Downturn and Economic Indicators
On November 6, Bitcoin experienced a significant drop of approximately 6.4%, plummeting from around $80,307 to nearly $74,800 before staging a modest recovery to approximately $75,600. This downturn coincided with heavy selling in technology, semiconductor, and artificial intelligence stocks, which rippled across global markets.
A key catalyst for the broader market pressure emerged from the latest U.S. Initial Jobless Claims report. The figures unexpectedly declined to 189,000, falling short of the anticipated 197,000 and signaling continued robustness in the U.S. labor market. This stronger-than-expected economic data has diminished expectations for a more accommodative monetary policy, thereby impacting Bitcoin and other risk assets.
Liquidation Surge and Analyst Outlook
The sell-off triggered substantial liquidations within the crypto market. According to data from CoinGlass, over 111,345 traders faced liquidation in the preceding 24 hours, with total losses amounting to $427.18 million. Long positions bore the brunt of these losses, accounting for nearly $327 million, or approximately 76.7% of the total.
Despite the recent price drop, prominent crypto analyst Ash Crypto has identified similarities between Bitcoin’s current weekly chart and its performance in 2023. Last year, Bitcoin traded within the range of its weekly 50-week and 100-week moving averages before breaking out and initiating a significant rally. Currently, BTC is again navigating between these two averages after encountering resistance near the 100-week moving average, which is situated around $87,400.
Key Support and Resistance Levels
Ash Crypto has identified the 50-week moving average, currently near $75,500, as the primary support level. Should Bitcoin continue to decline, the 200-week moving average, approximately at $67,800, is another critical level to monitor.
The analyst also noted a stronger buying demand below $75,000 compared to previous lows, which he considers a positive indicator of market demand and a strong buy signal.
For the current chart setup to remain intact, Bitcoin needs to sustain its position above $75,500. If buyers successfully defend this level, the cryptocurrency could first test resistance around the $82,000 mark. A decisive recovery above $82,000 could then bring the 100-week moving average near $87,400 back into focus.
On the technical front, the weekly Relative Strength Index (RSI) hovers around 50, remaining above the typical bear market zone. However, the Stochastic RSI is showing signs of weakening, suggesting potential for further downward movement.
