Bitcoin has surpassed two significant technical levels this week, a move that chart analysts suggest signals the completion of a substantial upward pattern. The cryptocurrency broke above its 50-week moving average, currently around $78,320, and its previous swing high from May. According to one analyst, this confirms a five-part upward trajectory that began from July’s low, a structure often indicative of a sustained trend rather than a mere rebound.
Understanding the Pattern’s Dynamics
The analyst detailed how such market movements typically unfold. The initial phase is often slow and goes largely unnoticed. This is followed by a period of consolidation, or a “boring sideways pause,” which can lead to waning investor interest.
Subsequently, the market enters an aggressive phase, catching unprepared latecomers and short-sellers off guard, compelling them to buy rapidly. Another quiet pause ensues, preceding a final upward push. This last stage requires less new buying pressure, as most interested participants are already invested.
Potential Trajectories for Bitcoin
Bitcoin has already reached the minimum target for this pattern, approximately $85,000, though this is considered a conservative outcome. A more robust target range is identified between $88,600 and $92,220. Should the rally gain further momentum, Bitcoin could potentially ascend to as high as $97,637.
A Subtle Warning Sign
Despite the upward price action, momentum indicators are flashing a subtle caution. The Relative Strength Index (RSI), a measure of buying pressure, is forming a lower peak even as Bitcoin’s price achieves a higher one. This divergence, known as a bearish divergence, can often precede the end of a strong rally, suggesting a potential loss of upward momentum, though not necessarily an immediate price decline.
Post-Rally Scenarios
A pullback following such a rally is considered a normal market occurrence. This correction may not be severe, with Bitcoin potentially holding above the 50-week moving average near $78,320. The analyst also highlighted a broader support zone around $75,000 as a key area to monitor should a deeper retracement occur. However, it was clarified that this is a reference zone for potential buyer interest, not a definitive price target.
Key Near-Term Levels
On shorter timeframes, Bitcoin has completed a smaller five-part rally originating from its September 15 low. The critical level to watch is $80,120. As long as this level holds, the short-term uptrend is expected to remain intact. A confirmed breach below this point would serve as the first significant indication that Bitcoin may have reached a temporary peak.
Additional support is situated between $80,566 and $82,985, with $82,800 identified as a level Bitcoin might retest. If Bitcoin holds this zone and resumes its upward movement, $88,900 emerges as the next realistic target.
