Hyperliquid Strategies Boosts Buyback to $100M Amid PURR Stock Plunge

Reading time: 3 min

Hyperliquid Strategies Inc. (NASDAQ: PURR) has significantly boosted its stock repurchase program, increasing the authorization from $30 million to $100 million. This expansion comes as shares of the HYPE treasury company have seen a decline of over 30% from their October peak.

Expanded Share Buyback Program

The company announced Friday that approximately $72 million remains available under the newly expanded program. In conjunction with this, its board of directors has extended the authorization’s expiration date from December 5, 2026, to October 31, 2027.

Hyperliquid Strategies stated that the increased buyback authorization reflects its board’s confidence in the company’s long-term capital strategy. It also aims to provide greater flexibility for repurchasing shares as part of its treasury management operations.

The company indicated that share repurchases may be executed through various methods, including open market purchases, privately negotiated transactions, or other avenues permitted by federal securities laws.

The timing and volume of these purchases will be contingent upon prevailing market conditions, share prices, and regulatory requirements. Hyperliquid Strategies cautioned that the authorization does not guarantee the utilization of the remaining funds, and the program could be suspended or discontinued.

Market Performance Context

This announcement arrives as both Hyperliquid Strategies and HYPE, the native token of the Hyperliquid blockchain, have experienced more pronounced declines than Bitcoin this month.

On Friday, PURR shares were trading near $8.80, marking a roughly 33% drop from their October 5 high of $13.05, according to historical market data.

HYPE has also seen a significant downturn, falling more than 18% from its October high of nearly $95. The token was trading around $77, despite Bitcoin maintaining relative stability during the same period.

Bitcoin, meanwhile, has largely traded between $80,000 and $87,000 throughout October, representing a decline of approximately 6% from its monthly peak near $87,000.

This comparative performance underscores the relative weakness observed in both HYPE and PURR, with the company’s stock showing a considerably steeper decline than both the underlying token and the broader cryptocurrency market benchmark.

Company Strategy and Outlook

Hyperliquid Strategies operates as a digital asset treasury company primarily focused on accumulating HYPE and offering investors exposure to the Hyperliquid ecosystem. Its investment strategy centers on generating returns through HYPE staking, yield optimization, and active network participation, rather than solely relying on fluctuations in the token’s market price.

The company positions itself as the leading digital asset treasury vehicle dedicated to HYPE, targeting U.S. and institutional investors seeking to capitalize on the blockchain’s growth.

The expanded share repurchase authorization provides Hyperliquid Strategies with enhanced flexibility to buy back its shares during the current market downturn. However, the company has not committed to a specific schedule for these repurchases.
