Moody’s has assigned an investment-grade rating to Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD, a development that occurred a day after Ripple secured final approval for a national trust bank. Ripple says RLUSD is the first stablecoin to receive such a rating from Moody’s.
The stablecoin aims for a reserve coverage of 103%. However, Moody’s assessment included a qualification regarding bankruptcy risks.
Ripple received the A2 and P-1 ratings for RLUSD from Moody’s. This follows Ripple’s acquisition of a national trust bank charter, a step that could be seen as a regulatory milestone for stablecoins and Ripple’s expansion into traditional financial services.
Despite the investment-grade rating, Moody’s noted that bankruptcy risks remain a qualification in their assessment. The specific extent of these risks and their precise impact on the rating are areas of uncertainty.
This development is of interest to cryptocurrency investors, financial analysts, blockchain enthusiasts, and regulatory observers seeking clarity on the significance of such ratings within the stablecoin market, the associated risks, and the broader context of stablecoin reserve management and banking integration.
