Ripple and Arf Forge Partnership to Enhance XRP Ledger Settlement Liquidity

Ripple, the blockchain payment solutions provider, has joined forces with Arf, a Swiss-regulated payment platform, to introduce RLUSD-powered settlement liquidity to the XRP Ledger (XRPL). This collaboration aims to provide licensed payment companies with crucial short-term funding for cross-border transactions, alleviating the need to maintain substantial capital reserves across various international accounts.

Addressing Cross-Border Payment Challenges

The global cross-border payments market handles trillions of dollars annually. However, payment companies frequently encounter a significant hurdle: the necessity of having working capital readily available in multiple countries before transactions can be finalized. Traditional bank credit lines, often requiring months to establish and substantial collateral, present a cumbersome solution for businesses needing timely access to funds in specific markets.

This partnership between Ripple and Arf seeks to bridge this gap by leveraging RLUSD and the XRP Ledger’s settlement network.

RLUSD-Powered Funding for Payment Companies

In the initial phase of the collaboration, Arf will supply short-term funding in the form of Ripple USD (RLUSD) directly on the XRP Ledger. Licensed payment firms can utilize these funds to facilitate international money transfers, with repayment typically occurring within one to five days after the payments are completed.

Jasmine Cooper, Head of Product for RippleX at Ripple, highlighted the strategic alignment, stating, “Settlement liquidity is exactly the kind of use case XRPL and RLUSD are built to support.”

Arf’s Proven Track Record

Arf’s payment platform has demonstrated significant growth, processing approximately $10 billion in annual global settlement volume since its launch in November 2022. The platform’s capital turnover rate of about four times per month enables funds to support recurring payment flows rather than remaining idle.

Ali Erhat Nalbant, Arf’s co-founder and CEO, emphasized the benefits of the partnership, noting, “We’re bringing stablecoin working capital to the XRP Ledger to help payment companies bridge that gap and support more payment volume.”

Future Expansion and On-Chain Lending

The partnership holds potential for further expansion with the anticipated availability of the XRP Ledger’s native lending infrastructure. Arf intends to utilize proposed Single Asset Vaults for capital pooling and the Lending Protocol to facilitate structured on-chain loans. While Arf will continue to manage underwriting and working capital decisions off-chain, the blockchain will underpin the lending infrastructure. However, these advanced features are contingent on successfully navigating the XRPL’s amendment process before their deployment on the main network.
