Tokenized Stocks on xStocks Platform Surpass $1 Billion Market Cap
Tokenized stocks issued through the xStocks platform have achieved a significant milestone, reaching a $1 billion onchain market capitalization. This development suggests that the concept of bringing traditional equities onto the blockchain, once viewed as a niche solution, has gained substantial traction, with a considerable number of participants recognizing its value.
Platform Launch and Evolution
xStocks officially launched on June 30, 2025, initially offering approximately 60 tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs. The platform was developed by Backed Assets (JE) Limited, which was subsequently acquired by Payward, the parent company of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken.
Each token is designed to represent one share of a real stock or ETF, with a 1:1 backing by underlying shares held in regulated custody. Technically, xStocks structures these tokens as tracker certificates rather than direct ownership of the underlying shares. This structure facilitates round-the-clock trading, a key advantage over traditional stock markets with fixed business hours, as blockchains operate continuously.
Rapid Growth in Market Cap and Asset Offerings
The onchain market capitalization of xStocks tokens has seen rapid expansion. Research indicated the market cap stood at around $685 million in early September 2026. By October 25, 2026, this figure had climbed to approximately $886 million.
This growth in market value has been mirrored by a dramatic increase in the platform’s asset catalog. By October 2026, xStocks provided access to over 1,300 assets across more than 11 blockchains, a substantial leap from the initial 60 tickers. The platform began primarily on Solana, with stated intentions to expand to other networks such as Ethereum and BNB Chain.
Trading Volume and Onchain Activity
Cumulative trading volume on the xStocks platform has exceeded $40 billion. In September 2026 alone, onchain decentralized exchange activity surpassed $1 billion for that month.
Key Restrictions and Broader Market Context
A notable restriction is that xStocks tokens are not available to U.S. persons. Despite tracking U.S. stocks and ETFs, Americans are currently unable to purchase them through this specific channel.
xStocks operates within the broader category of tokenized equities, which is estimated to be worth approximately $2.67 billion, according to research findings.
Associated Risks and Regulatory Landscape
The tokenized stock model carries inherent risks. As tracker certificates rather than direct shares, holders are reliant on the issuer and custodian to fulfill their obligations. The integrity of the 1:1 backing is directly tied to the effectiveness of the custody arrangements.
Regulation remains a significant factor. The exclusion of U.S. persons highlights the careful navigation of securities laws required by issuers. Any shifts in regulatory approaches to tokenized equities could profoundly impact accessibility and the structural frameworks of these products.
