Binance Hack Could Bolster Decentralized Trading, Uniswap Price Target Intact

The recent security breach at Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, could accelerate a significant shift in crypto trading towards decentralized platforms, potentially benefiting Uniswap in the long run, according to Geoffrey Kendrick, Standard Chartered’s global head of digital assets research.

In an email communication, Kendrick suggested that the hack should spur further growth in the market share of decentralized exchanges (DEXs) relative to their centralized counterparts. However, he advised investors to exercise patience and observe the market’s reaction to the Binance incident before making new commitments.

“I would encourage investors to re-engage with Uniswap,” Kendrick stated. “The decentralized exchange (DEX) has never experienced any exploits, and the hack of the largest centralized exchange (CEX), Binance, should see the ratio of DEX to CEX trading continue to increase.”

Data from CoinGecko indicates a growing trend in DEX adoption. The top 10 spot DEX-to-CEX ratio reached 23.5% in the second quarter of 2026, marking a 2.1 percentage point increase from the first quarter of the same year.

Kendrick reaffirmed his $100 price target for Uniswap’s UNI token by 2030. He further commented that the Binance hack serves as “another reason why that forecast may end up being too low.” This projection is underpinned by Standard Chartered’s earlier analysis, which anticipates that assets locked in decentralized finance (DeFi) could reach $2.7 trillion by 2030, with Uniswap positioned as a crucial trading hub for tokenized assets.

Looking at the broader implications of the Binance hack, Kendrick anticipates further negative price movements in the cryptocurrency market in the immediate term.

Cryptocurrency markets experienced a decline following the Binance hack. BNB saw a drop of over 8% in a 24-hour period, while Bitcoin traded near $77,000. Decentralized finance tokens also registered losses, with Aave’s AAVE falling 11.3% to $118.54 and Uniswap’s UNI dropping 10.4% to $6.48, according to CoinGecko.

“Only after assets are unfrozen and more detail of the hack emerges will we find a new base,” Kendrick concluded.

Binance has reported that the $6.3 billion hack involved a compromised engineer’s laptop.
