XRP Ledger Foundation Adjusts Validator List: Flare Networks Added, Anodos Finance Removed

Reading time: 2 min

The XRP Ledger Foundation has updated its recommended validator list, adding Flare Networks and removing Anodos Finance. These changes affect the pool of trusted validators that server operators may consider when configuring their Unique Node Lists (UNLs), which are crucial for network consensus and governance.

Following these adjustments, the XRP Ledger Foundation’s and Ripple’s recommended lists now share 35 matching validator keys. A validator manifest linked to Flare is also present on both lists.

The Foundation cited Flare Networks’ alignment with the XRP Ledger’s core values and its active participation in governance as reasons for its inclusion. Flare is developing services to connect XRP holders with decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, such as FXRP and Flare Smart Accounts. Flare Smart Accounts are designed to allow users to access applications on Flare using XRPL wallets without relinquishing custody of their assets.

Anodos Finance was removed from the recommended list at its own request, as the project plans to shut down its validator operations by the end of October. The XRP Ledger Foundation acknowledged Anodos Finance’s contributions and cooperation with the XRP community.

Recommended validator lists guide server operators in selecting validators for their UNLs, which enable servers to agree on new ledgers. Validators also participate in network governance by voting on protocol amendments, which require over 80% support from trusted validators over two consecutive weeks to activate.

Server operators are not obligated to adopt the Foundation’s recommended list, as they retain the autonomy to maintain custom UNLs. Validators do not receive direct XRP rewards from the protocol for their participation in consensus; their role centers on maintaining network reliability and supporting protocol changes.

Why This Matters

These changes to the XRP Ledger Foundation’s recommended validator list signify an ongoing evolution within the network’s infrastructure and governance participation. By adding Flare Networks, the Foundation acknowledges its alignment with core values and ecosystem contributions, influencing how server operators might configure their validator choices. While Anodos Finance’s departure is at its own request due to planned shutdowns, it highlights the dynamic nature of validator participation.

Broader Context

The XRP Ledger Foundation’s role in maintaining recommended validator lists helps server operators make informed decisions about which validators to trust for their Unique Node Lists (UNLs). These lists are instrumental in ensuring network stability and facilitating governance through validator voting on protocol amendments.
