Polymarket US Launches Five-Minute Crypto Price Prediction Markets

Polymarket US has introduced five-minute “up-or-down” prediction markets for four of the cryptocurrency sector’s most prominent assets: Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, and XRP. The new offering, announced on October 27, 2026, provides users of the CFTC-regulated application with a significantly accelerated method for speculating on price movements.

How the Markets Work

The market mechanism is straightforward. Each market poses a single yes-or-no question: Will the price of a specific token conclude the five-minute period higher or lower than its starting point? Participants purchase shares corresponding to the outcome they anticipate. Correct predictions result in a payout, while incorrect ones do not. This constitutes a binary bet with an extremely short timeframe.

The markets currently encompass Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), and XRP.

Automated Resolution via Chainlink

Resolution of these markets is automated, drawing data from Chainlink, an oracle network that feeds external price information into blockchain applications. Specifically, Polymarket utilizes Chainlink’s 60-second time-weighted average price (TWAP) to determine the winning outcome.

This TWAP rule has been in effect for settlements since August 14, 2026. Polymarket advocates for this approach as a means to achieve efficient and transparent market resolution, avoiding reliance on exchange spot prices which can sometimes be misleading.

Evolution of the Product

The introduction of the five-minute market is not an entirely new concept for Polymarket. The platform first debuted this format for Bitcoin in February 2026 and has since refined its settlement mechanics.

This latest expansion follows a consistent rollout strategy. On October 15, 2026, Polymarket US had already added 15-minute, hourly, and daily up-or-down markets for ETH, SOL, and XRP. The five-minute window for all four tokens was subsequently launched twelve days later.

Polymarket US operates as a distinct entity from Polymarket.com, the platform’s international division. The US application is accessible in most states and functions under the oversight of the CFTC through QCX LLC.

Implications of the TWAP Rule

The Chainlink TWAP rule is a critical consideration for potential participants. Averaging prices over a full minute increases the cost and difficulty of market manipulation. While not entirely preventing it, this method makes it substantially harder to influence the outcome with a single, strategically timed order.

For users, practical advice emphasizes treating these contracts for what they are: rapid, binary wagers on short-term price direction, settled by an averaged price feed rather than a single price point. The five-minute timeframe is ample for markets to experience unexpected volatility.
