VanEck Launches New ETF with Targeted Bitcoin Allocation

US asset manager VanEck has introduced an actively managed exchange-traded fund (ETF) that integrates stocks, bonds, and real assets, incorporating a targeted allocation to Bitcoin.

The VanEck Wealth Builder ETF (NYSE: WBMO), announced Tuesday, invests in a mix of VanEck and third-party ETFs. It aims for a 2% allocation to Bitcoin, with a permissible range of 1% to 5%, according to the company’s website. The fund gains Bitcoin exposure via a spot Bitcoin ETP, rather than holding the cryptocurrency directly.

This new fund expands upon VanEck’s established Wealth Builder model portfolios, which were previously accessible to financial advisors through external wealth management platforms. The strategy encompasses exposure to global equities, fixed income, gold, and other real assets, with allocations actively managed and rebalanced by VanEck.

“The traditional 60/40 portfolio was built for a different investment landscape,” stated David Schassler, VanEck’s head of multi-asset solutions. He suggested that incorporating real assets alongside stocks and bonds could assist investors in navigating a broader spectrum of economic conditions.

The launch follows VanEck’s March collaboration with retirement platform Basic Capital, which made several of the asset manager’s digital asset exchange-traded products available through US employer-sponsored 401(k) plans. As of September 30, VanEck managed approximately $244.1 billion in assets.
